Philadelphia's Fairmount Park
Trolley: 1896 - 1946
The June 6, 1897 edition of
The Times included this advertisement announcing the opening of Woodside Park.
"Philadelphia's Pleasure Palace Place / Newest and Most Magnificent of
them All."
Construction of an amusement park along a trolley line was common practice during
the 1890s.
Admission was free, but the park was intentionally sited beyond easy walking
distance, thus generating trolley traffic.
Woodside Park was located just outside Fairmount Park, along W. Ford Road.
Woodside Park
closed after the 1955 summer season.
