Philadelphia's Fairmount Park
Trolley: 1896 - 1946
Fairmount Park trolley passengers
bound for Woodside Park have just climbed down off this open trolley and trailer
on June 24, 1946.
Two weeks later, on Independence Day July 4, 1946, park trolleys hauled 37,000
fare-paying passengers.
Although an impressive number, it pales in comparison to the 100,000 carried
on peak days in the 1920s.
The summer of 1946 was understood to be the last season of Fairmount Park trolley
service,
as permission to abandon the trolley line had been granted by the Penna. Public
Utility Commission on May 17, 1946.
