Philadelphia's Fairmount Park
Trolley: 1896 - 1946
Fairmount Park Transit Company
car 3 at the Fairmount Park carbarn still looked good after nearly 50 years
of service.
FPT's fleet, including closed cars 1 through 10, were built in 1896 by the J.
G. Brill Company in southwest Philadelphia.
These cars utilized dynamic brakes rather than air brakes. Hand-operated mechanical
brakes held the car during stops.
Built as double-end cars with open platforms, early on the trolleys were rebuilt
as single-end and the front platforms were enclosed.
