Philadelphia trolley photos from the Harry Foesig Collection

44th & Parkside
44th Street and Parkside Avenue loop was the terminal for trolley Routes 38, 38A, 40 and 43.
Trolleys serving three of those routes are represented in this World War II era photo.
The pre-war PCC at left, still in its silver and blue paint, is assigned to Route 40. It will shortly depart for Front & Lombard Streets.
PTC 8307, built in 1923, was recently modernized and is assigned to Route 38. It will loop in the trolley subway beneath City Hall.
The 'Birney car' at right is assigned to short Route 38A. Painted orange, it will shuttle just three-quarters of a mile to 52nd & Jefferson Sts.
