Philadelphia's Fairmount Park
Trolley: 1896 - 1946
Woodside Park was an amusement
park built in 1897 by the trolley company to generate ridership.
The location chosen was adjacent to West Fairmount Park, not easily reached
before automobiles were commonplace.
On busy days at the amusement park, open trailers were stored on this siding
at Woodside Station.
The trailers were unhooked from the trolley cars and parked here until late
afternoon and evening as the crowds began heading home.
On the busiest days at the amusement park, as many as ten trailers were stored
on this track.
Today the site of Woodside Park is occupied by the high-rise 20-story Plaza
Park Condominiums along W. Ford Road.
Photo date is circa 1946.
