Philadelphia's Fairmount Park
Trolley: 1896 - 1946
Fairmount Park Transit Co.
open trolley with trailer heads south from Woodside Station in West Fairmount
Park.
FPT Co. was the last American transit operation to use open trolley cars in
regular service.
Trolleys made a counterclockwise loop around the park.
The park trolley was designed to be as unobtrusive as possible, tunnelling beneath
all* park roadways.
Grass was sown between the rails so that all that was visible were pairs of
shiny ribbons of steel.

*Almost all park roads. Ford Road was bridged over (and Strawberry Mansion Bridge spanned the East and West River Drives).
