One hundred and twelve LRVs were delivered from Kawasaki Heavy Industries between 1980 and 1982. All still serve SEPTA Routes 10, 11, 13, 34 and 36. In the mid 1970s, flat fronts were the prevailing style for streetcars, and the design of these cars followed that fashion. Because the air conditioning units have proven themselves reliable, the two-piece side windows with the tilt-open top sash have been replaced with one-piece windows that do not open.
